Microsoft has not mentioned how Surface Headphones owners in the UK and elsewhere will avail of these these features which Cortana provides support for. Microsoft’s Cortana app is also used to configure settings and update the firmware for devices like the companies Surface Headphones. The support article also reveals that Cortana will be disappearing from Microsoft’s Android Launcher app also at the end of January. A Microsoft spokesperson stated that currently it’s still supported in the US for the moment. It’s not clear how much longer the Cortana for iOS and Android app will continue to operate in the US after January. The spokesperson also went on to say “To make Cortana as helpful as possible, we’re integrating Cortana deeper into your Microsoft 365 productivity apps, and part of this evolution involves ending support for the Cortana mobile app on Android and iOS.” “Cortana is an integral part of our broader vision to bring the power of conversational computing and productivity to all our platforms and devices,” says a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement released to the press. Microsoft has also confirmed that the Cortana app will disappear in the UK, Australia, Germany, Spain, Mexico, India, Canada, and China at the end of January. The software maker has posted a new support article for Cortana users in the UK, Canada, and Australia that clarifies Cortana for iOS and Android will be abandoned in those markets. Microsoft says expansion to other languages and regions will take place as part of future releases.Microsoft has revealed that it’s planning to kill off its Cortana app for iOS and Android in January. It is currently not available for education and government users. The rollout of the extension is expected to be completed in early June. The feature will be enabled by default but can be disabled by admins through TeamsCortanaPolicy. Users can also share files and view their calendars. Users can also join meetings by saying “join my next meeting”.
They can communicate with someone on the go by making a voice request such as "call Megan" or "send a message to my next meeting".
Teams users will see the Cortana mic when opening the Teams mobile app in iOS or Android, and users will be able to talk to Cortana by clicking the microphone button in the upper right corner of the Teams mobile app. This is in addition to the English support in the United States launched in 2020. Users whose phone region is set to Australia, Canada, India, and the United Kingdom and who use English will now have access to the service. Today, Microsoft announced that Cortana is expanding support for the Microsoft Teams mobile apps for iOS and Android to other regions. While Microsoft is no longer promoting Cortana as a stand-alone voice assistant, the company is working hard to integrate the client into its office applications.
